The World Press Freedom Committee (WPFC), founded in 1976, is an international umbrella organization of 45 affiliates. It monitors threats to press freedom in the United Nations system and other major intergovernmental organizations. It promotes a common front against press restrictions through the Coordinating Committee of Press Freedom Organizations and works to ensure that press freedom is a primary consideration for the future of news on the internet. This grant advances the World Press Freedom Committee's work of protecting and expanding freedom of the press and freedom of information abroad. The World Press Freedom Committee will increase its monitoring of and participation in existing global programs and will help mobilize global responses to press freedom threats.
